Day 27 : Balme to Pialpetta

From Balme, follow the road down the valley to leave the town. Soon after leaving Balme, turn left for Chialambertetto. After the village, the path turns L on a lane to Alpe Pian Bosco (1677 m) and later Lago Vasuero (2237 m), from where the path zigzags up to Colle Trione (2485 m).

From there the path descends, first through a rocky area, where snow patches can survive until late into summer. After about 1h, arrive at Laghi di Trione (2164 m) after which the descent continues to a clearing Gias di Mezzo (1961 m). The path continues, including a level stretch, but then cuts through the woods along the rather steep flanks of Val Grande. Once across the Fiume Sture di Val Grande, turn L along the road to Pialpetta (1069m), a picturesque village with a grocery store and Albergo Pialpetta.
