Day 33 : Piamprato to Fondo

According to our guide, the footpath from Ronco Canavese to Piamprato was washed away by a flooding, so we took the bus to Piamprato. From Piamprato, follow the markings, first across an open slope and through some forest. Soon it starts climbing, but this side of the mountain is quite shaded in the morning. A few stretches require light scrambling and/or are assisted with chains.

The pass Bochetta dello Ocche (2415m) offers a good stopping point, with great views. It's only down from here, but be aware, that the descent offers little shade and there is still some distance to go! Going down from the pass, first steep, and later on a gentle gradient, passing a few summer farrms/huts. The first signs of more permanent habitation, is a gravel road which you briefly follow. This is also where you get a first view of the beautiful stone arch bridges that are characteristic for this valley. From here the path is also more level. Don't follow the road, but look for the trail to continue to Tallorno and on to Fondo, where Trattoria del Ponte provides simple rooms and hearty meals.
